RESUMO

Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is a common oxidant that plays an important role in many biological processes and is also an important medium analysis in various fields. In this work, a new electrochemical nanosensor capable of detecting and quantifying hydrogen peroxide was introduced. This nanosensor was fabricated by electrodepositing prussian blue (PB)/graphene quantum dots (GQDs)/polypyrrole (PPy) on single nanopore electrode etched from single gold nanoelectrode. This prepapred nanosensor exhibits good electrochemical response to hydrogen peroxide with high sensitivity and stability, with a linear response in the 2.0 and 80 µM by using amperometric method and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) method. The limit of detections are 0.33 µM (S/N = 3) for amperometric method and 0.67 µM (S/N = 3) for differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) method, respectively. This nanosensor can be used for the determination of hydrogen peroxide in human urine, and can serve as a new electrochemical platform to monitor H2O2 release from single living cells due to its small overal dimension and high sensitivity.

RESUMO

Rice cake is a common traditional food in China. In this study, the effect of Polygonatum cyrtonema (PC) on the qualities and characteristics of rice cake was investigated. The incorporation of PC powder in rice cakes endowed a light-yellow color and increased the water content and water absorption of products. Rheological analysis showed that the rice cake containing PC exhibited weak-gel properties. Additionally, PC (40%) inhibited the rice cake aging and lowered the hardness of rice cakes to 13.86 N after 4 h storage. In vitro starch digestion analysis showed that PC (40%) reduced the digestibility of rice cakes by decreasing the starch hydrolysis rate from 88.70 to 58.95%, displaying a low estimated glycemic index (eGI) of 52.14. The findings mentioned above indicated that the inclusion of PC powder in rice cakes enhanced their characteristics and attributes, which also provided an approach for the development of PC products.

RESUMO

The combinational effects of kojic acid and lauroyl arginine ethyl ester hydrochloride (ELAH) on fresh-cut potatoes were investigated. Kojic acid of 0.6% (w/w) effectively inhibited the browning of fresh-cut potatoes and displayed antimicrobial capacity. The color difference value of samples was decreased from 175 to 26 by kojic acid. In contrast, ELAH could not effectively bind with the active sites of tyrosinase and catechol oxidase at molecular level. Although 0.5% (w/w) of ELAH prominently inhibited the microbial growth, it promoted the browning of samples. However, combining kojic acid and ELAH effectively inhibited the browning of samples and microbial growth during the storage and the color difference value of samples was decreased to 52. This amount of kojic acid inhibited enzyme activities toward phenolic compounds. The results indicated that combination of kojic acid and ELAH could provide a potential strategy to extend the shelf life of fresh-cut products.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Neuromuscular blocking agents are routinely used in laparoscopic surgery to optimize operative conditions. We compared the effect of a deep and moderate neuromuscular blockade (NMB) on surgical conditions and postoperative outcomes in children undergoing major laparoscopic surgery. METHODS: Sixty children aged 2-14 years scheduled to undergo major laparoscopic surgery were randomly allocated to deep (post-tetanic count 1-2 twitches) or moderate (train-of-four 1-2 twitches) NMB groups. The anesthesia was maintained with propofol and remifentanil, and the NMB was maintained with a rocuronium continuous infusion. At the end of the operation, the NMB were antagonized with sugammadex. The intra-abdominal pressure, airway pressure, Leiden Surgical Rating Scale, intraoperative hemodynamics, drug usages, duration of surgery, postoperative recovery time, pain, and complications were compared between the groups. RESULTS: The maximum and mean intra-abdominal pressure, the peak inspiratory pressure, and mean airway pressure were significantly lower in the deep NMB group than in the moderate NMB group (p < 0.001). The Leiden Surgical Rating Scale and the dosage of rocuronium were significantly higher in the deep NMB group than the moderate NMB group (p < 0.001). The intraoperative hemodynamics, duration of surgery, post-operative recovery time, pain, and the incidence rate of complications were not significantly different between the groups (p > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: A deep NMB provided better operative conditions and similar recovery profiles compared with a moderate NMB as reversed with sugammadex in children undergoing major laparoscopic surgery. RESUMO

Background: Adolescents' mental health literacy is a topic of growing interest and studies have begun to explore the factors that influence adolescents' mental health literacy. This study investigated the relationship between parents' mental health literacy and adolescents' mental health literacy, as well as the mediating roles of parent-child relationship, and the moderating roles of school mental health service. Methods: Questionnaires were distributed to adolescents and their parents at two time points with an interval of one month. In the first survey, 835 parents completed a mental health literacy scale and a parent-child relationship scale. In the second, 841 adolescents completed a school mental health service questionnaire and an adolescent mental health literacy assessment questionnaire. A total of 617 paired data points were matched (parents' age: M = 40.47, SD = 5.10; adolescents' age: M = 13.34, SD = 0.99). Results: Bootstrapping results showed that parents' mental health literacy was positively associated with adolescents' mental health literacy. In addition, parent-child intimacy mediated the relationship between parents' mental health literacy and adolescents' mental health literacy. School mental health service moderated the relationship between parents' mental health literacy and parent-child intimacy and adolescents' mental health literacy. Conclusion: Intergenerational transmission of mental health literacy from parents to adolescents and its conditions were revealed. These findings provide new insights for the intervention of adolescents' mental health literacy, and may lead future research to investigate the role of parents within the family context, as well as the influence of home-school cooperation on adolescents' mental health literacy.

RESUMO

A new nanozyme (CuGaa) with switchable enzyme-like activity of peroxidase and polyphenol oxidase was successfully prepared based on guanidinoacetic acid and copper. The two enzyme-like activities can be easily switched by changing temperature or adding MnCl2. At 4 °C, polyphenol oxidase-like activity decreased to nearly 1%, and the material is mainly characterized by peroxidase-like activity at this point. However, at 60 °C in the presence of 20 mM MnCl2, the peroxidase-like activity decreased to nearly 10%, and the polyphenol oxidase-like activity of the materials increased to 140%. Based on the switchable enzyme-like activity of CuGaa, detection methods for thymol and hydrogen peroxide were developed. In addition, a rapid combination strategy was further established combined with logic gate technology for the facile identification of complex contamination in honey, which provided new ideas for low-cost and rapid honey identification.

RESUMO

Research on parental burnout has focused more on its antecedents than on its consequences. Burned-out parents may experience a series of behavioral changes, negatively affecting their children's physical and mental development. This study examined the effects of primary caregivers' parental burnout on adolescents' development and the mediating role of negative parenting styles. This study used a time-lagged design, and data were collected at three different time points. Adolescents were asked to identify their primary caregivers, and parents were asked whether they were the primary caregivers of their children. Thereafter, paired data from the children and primary caregivers were collected. A total of 317 junior middle school students (178 boys, Mage = 14.20 ± 0.8 years) and primary caregivers (71 fathers, Mage = 42.20 ± 4.53 years) from Henan province participated. Primary caregivers' parental burnout was positively associated with negative parenting styles, and negative parenting styles mediated the relationship between parental burnout and adolescent development. From the perspective of prevention-focused interventions, it is necessary to focus on preventing the occurrence of parental burnout. Further, parents should try to avoid using abusive behaviors toward their children and neglecting them.

RESUMO

English-speaking bimodal and bilateral cochlear implant (CI) users can segregate competing speech using talker sex cues but not spatial cues. While tonal language experience allows for greater utilization of talker sex cues for listeners with normal hearing, tonal language benefits remain unclear for CI users. The present study assessed the ability of Mandarin-speaking bilateral and bimodal CI users to recognize target sentences amidst speech maskers that varied in terms of spatial cues and/or talker sex cues, relative to the target. Different from English-speaking CI users, Mandarin-speaking CI users exhibited greater utilization of spatial cues, particularly in bimodal listening.

RESUMO

With the emergence of microRNA (miRNA) as a promising biomarker in cancer diagnosis, it is significant to develop multiple analyses of miRNAs. However, it still faces difficulties in ensuring the sensitivity and accuracy during multiplex detection owing to the low abundance and experimental deviation of miRNAs. In this work, a flexible-arranged biomimetic array integrated with parallel entropy-driven circuits (EDCs) was developed for ultrasensitive, multiplex, reliable, and high-throughput detection of miRNAs. The biomimetic array was fabricated by arrangement of various photonic crystals (PCs) for adjustable photonic band gaps (PBGs) and specific fluorescence enhancement. Meanwhile, two cancer-related miRNAs and one reference miRNA were introduced as multiple analytes as a proof-of-concept. The parallel EDCs with negligible crosstalk were designed based on the modular property. Because of the one-to-one match between the emitted fluorescence of parallel EDCs and the PBGs of the flexible-arranged biomimetic array, the generated fluorescence signal triggered by target miRNAs can be enhanced on the corresponding domain of the array. Furthermore, the amplified signal of the array was detected with high-throughput scanning, which could reveal specific information on cancer-related miRNAs as well as reference miRNA, enhancing the abundance and reliability of the analysis. The proposed array has the merits of a modular design, flexible deployment, simple operation (nonenzymatic and isothermal), improved accuracy, high sensitivity, and multiplex analysis, showing potential in disease diagnosis.

RESUMO

A novel sensor array was developed based on the enzyme/nanozyme hybridization for the identification of tea polyphenols (TPs) and Chinese teas. The enzyme/nanozyme with polyphenol oxidase activity can catalyze the reaction between TPs and 4-aminoantipyrine (4-AAP) to produce differences in color, and the sensor array was thus constructed to accurately identify TPs mixed in different species, concentrations, or ratios. In addition, a machine learning based dual output model was further used to effectively predict the classes and concentrations of unknown samples. Therefore, the qualitative and quantitative detection of TPs can be realized continuously and quickly. Furthermore, the sensor array combining the machine learning based dual output model was also utilized for the identification of Chinese teas. The method can distinguish the six teas series in China, and then precisely differentiate the more specific tea varieties. This study provides an efficient and facile strategy for the identification of teas and tea products.

RESUMO

Only a few studies investigated the neurodevelopment of pain empathy. Here, the temporal dynamics of electrocortical processes in pain empathy during individual neurodevelopment from childhood through adolescence into adulthood, along with the moderation effect of top-down attention, were investigated using the event-related potential (ERP) technique. To investigate the role of top-down attention in empathy development, both A-P task and A-N task were conducted. In the A-P and A-N task, participants are instructed to judge whether the models in pictures were painful or non-painful and count the number of limbs in pictures, respectively. We found that compared to the adolescent and adult groups, the children group responded significantly worse, along with stronger neural responses in both tasks. Compared to the adolescent and adult groups, the differential amplitudes between painful and non-painful conditions of P2, N2 and P3 were significantly larger in the children group. Moreover, this P3 differential amplitude could only be modulated by age in the A-P task. These results suggest that the capacity to empathize has not yet attained complete development in these children. Significantly more attention resources were involuntarily attracted by the nociceptive cues in these children, which could also reflect the immaturity of empathy ability in these children.

RESUMO

Our previous study identified the potential of SEMA4B methylation level as a biomarker for hexavalent chromium [Cr(VI)] exposure. This study aimed to investigate the role of the SEMA4B gene in Cr(VI)-mediated malignant transformation of human bronchial epithelial (BEAS-2B) cells. In our population survey of workers, the geometric mean [95% confidence intervals (CIs)] of Cr in blood was 3.80 (0.42, 26.56) µg/L. Following treatment with various doses of Cr(VI), it was found that 0.5 µM had negligible effects on the cell viability of BEAS-2B cells. The expression of SEMA4B was observed to decrease in BEAS-2B cells after 7 days of treatment with 0.5 µM Cr(VI), and this downregulation continued with increasing passages of Cr(VI) treatment. Chronic exposure to 0.5 µM Cr(VI) enhanced the anchorage-independent growth ability of BEAS-2B cells. Furthermore, the use of a methylation inhibitor suppressed the Cr(VI)-mediated anchorage-independent growth in BEAS-2B cells. Considering that Cr levels exceeding 0.5 µM can be found in human blood due to occupational exposure, the results suggested a potential carcinogenic risk associated with occupational Cr(VI) exposure through the promotion of malignant transformation. The in vitro study further demonstrated that Cr(VI) exposure might inhibit the expression of the SEMA4B gene to promote the malignant transformation of BEAS-2B cells.

RESUMO

Previous research has found that individuals with Internet gaming disorder (IGD) show different patterns of social function impairments in game-related and real-life social contexts. Impaired social reward processing may be the underlying mechanism according to the Social Motivation Theory. Thus, in this study, event-related potentials were recorded from 24 individuals with IGD and 24 healthy gamers during a social judgement task. We focused on reward positivity (RewP) elicited by game-related and real-life social rewards, and N170 elicited by game avatar faces and real faces. These indicators were used to explore the neurocognitive mechanism of impaired social reward processing in individuals with IGD and its relationship with early face perception. Results showed that (1) the RewP elicited by real-life social reward was considerably reduced in individuals with IGD relative to healthy gamers. (2) The N170 elicited by game avatar faces in individuals with IGD was larger than that elicited by real faces. However, the N170 was not associated with RewP in either group. (3) The score for IGD severity was correlated with the RewP elicited by real-life social reward and the N170 elicited by game avatar face. In conclusion, the present study suggests that the impaired social reward processing in individuals with IGD is mainly manifested in a decreased neural sensitivity to real-life social reward. Meanwhile, the reduced RewP elicited by real-life social reward and the enhanced N170 elicited by game avatar face might serve as potential biomarkers for IGD.

RESUMO

Introduction: Ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm (rAAA) represents a critically urgent vascular surgical condition, and endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) is a clinically effective treatment option. This study aims to investigate whether the type of intravascular graft used for ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysms has an impact on perioperative outcomes of EVAR. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on patients who underwent EVAR for ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm at a single medical center from 2019 to 2022. Patients who required simultaneous stent implantation in the renal arteries or visceral arteries, as well as those with ruptured aneurysms located in the para-renal, supra-renal, or thoracoabdominal regions, were excluded from the analysis. Additionally, patients who underwent open surgery during the initial procedure or converted to open repair were excluded. The primary endpoint was perioperative mortality rate. Other study outcomes included perioperative complications, reoperation rates, and length of hospital stay. Characteristics and corresponding outcomes of patients receiving different endovascular stent treatments were compared using SPSS software. Results: A total of 58 patients received treatment with two types of endovascular stents: Gore Excluder (n = 29) and Microport Hercules (n = 29). The number of other endografts was too small for statistical analysis. Compared to patients treated with Hercules, those treated with Excluder had a significantly increased likelihood of concomitant coronary atherosclerosis (P = 0.009) and potentially higher creatinine levels (P = 0.014). Additionally, Excluder was more commonly used in patients with shorter aneurysm necks (P < 0.001). There was a statistically significant difference in overall mortality between the two groups (Hercules 27.6%, Excluder 6.9%, P = 0.037). Furthermore, patients who received Excluder treatment had lower mortality rates in subgroups of non-alcohol users (P = 0.028), non-diabetic patients (P = 0.027), and patients with dispersed thrombosis at the proximal neck (P = 0.046). In the multivariate analysis, the type of stent used (OR 0.06, 95% CI 0.00-1.31) and the occurrence of intraoperative complications (OR 20.70, 95% CI 1.14-76.70) in patients with rAAA was identified as an independent risk factor for perioperative mortality. Conclusion: Our study suggests that the management of intraoperative complications may be a modifiable factor that can improve outcomes. Patients receiving Excluder treatment demonstrated better performance in EVAR for single-center rAAA patients compared to other endovascular stents, and this difference warrants further investigation.

RESUMO

Offset boosting plays an important role in chaos application in electronic engineering. A direct variable substitution typically will destroy the dynamics of a discrete map even though the initial condition is well considered. The internal fundamental reason is that the left-hand side of a discrete system does not have the dimension of variable differentiation (DVD) like the one of a continuous system. When the key property of DVD is completely preserved, the offset boosting based on a parameter or the initial condition can be reasonably achieved like in a differential system. Consequently, by the initial condition-oriented offset boosting, flexible multistability like attractor self-reproducing or attractor doubling can be further realized. A circuit experiment is completed for the verification of reliable offset boosting. The systematic exploration of offset boosting in a map will cast a new light on chaos regulation and attractor transportation in a discrete map. As a simple case, a two-dimensional Hénon map is taken as the example demonstrating the achievement of offset boosting via the parameter or initial condition.

RESUMO

Time-based prospective memory (TBPM) is the ability to remember to do a planned task at the right time. In social interactions, people are often motivated to do things for others, which reflects an important factor that influences prospective memory, namely prosocial motivation. According to the motivational cognitive model, prosocial motivation promotes TBPM by paying more attention or adopting more effective strategies. This study explored the effect of prosocial motivation on TBPM under different time-monitoring conditions within the motivational cognitive model framework. One hundred and thirty-one university students participated in this experiment that adopted a 2 (groups: control, prosocial motivation) × 2 (viewing time conditions: limited, unlimited) between-subjects design. The results revealed that the prosocial motivation group had better TBPM performance than the control group under both limited and unlimited viewing time conditions. At the same time, compared with the control group, the prosocial motivation group consumed more internal attention and utilized more strategies under both viewing time conditions, and their external attention was more effective. In addition, the external attention of the prosocial motivation group was higher only when time-monitoring was unlimited. The results of this study further extend knowledge of the motivational cognitive model and expand its scope of application, which has theoretical significance.

RESUMO

A landmark study by Poore et al. showed intratumor bacteria (ITBs) playing a critical role in most cancers by reproduction of The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) transcriptome data. A recent study by Salzberg et al. argued that ITBs, being overstated as a methodology by Poore et al., were problematic. We previously reported that ITBs were prognostic in adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC), a highly aggressive rare disease using data by Poore et al., and here, we aimed to answer whether ITBs truly existed and were prognostic in ACC. ACC samples from our institutes underwent 16S rRNA sequencing [adrenocortical carcinoma blocks from Huashan Hospital and China Medical University (HS) cohort]. The ITB profile was compared to TCGA data processed by Poore et al. (TCGA-P) and TCGA data processed by Salzberg et al. (TCGA-S), respectively. The primary outcome was overall survival (OS). A total of 26 ACC cases (HS cohort) and 10 paraffin controls were sequenced. The TCGA cohort encompassed 77 cases. Two and four amid the top 10 abundant genera in HS cohort were not detected in TCGA-P and TCGA-S, respectively. Neither was alpha or beta diversity associated with survival nor could ACC be subtyped by ITB signature in the HS cohort. Notably, a five-genera ITB risk score (Corynebacterium, Mycoplasma, Achromobacter, Anaerococcus, and Streptococcus) for OS trained in the HS cohort was validated in both TCGA-P and TCGA-S cohorts and was independently prognostic. Whereas ITB signature on the whole may not be associated with ACC subtypes, certain ITB features are associated with prognosis, and a risk score could be generated and validated externally. IMPORTANCE: In this report, we looked at the role of ITBs in ACC in patients with different race and sequencing platforms. We found a five-genera ITB risk score consistently predicted overall survival in all cohorts. We conclude that certain ITB features are universally pathogenic to ACC.

RESUMO

Traditional identification methods based on cholinesterase inhibition are limited to recognizing organic phosphorus and carbamate esters, and their response to sulfonylurea pesticides is weak. Residual sulfonylurea pesticides can pose a threat to human health. So, it is very important to develop an effective, rapid and portable method for sulfonylurea pesticides detection. Herein, we first found that sulfonylurea pesticides have activity-enhancing effects on copper-based nanozymes, and then combined them with the array technology to construct a six-channel sensing array method for selectively identifying sulfonylurea pesticides and detecting total concentration of sulfonylurea pesticides (the limit of detection was 0.03 µg/mL). This method has good selectivity towards sulfonylurea pesticides. In addition, a smartphone-based colorimetric paper sensor analysis method was developed to achieve the on-site detection of the total concentration of sulfonylurea pesticides. And this array can also be used for individual differentiation (1-100 µg/mL). Our work not only investigates the specific responses of copper-based nanozymes to sulfonylurea pesticides, but also develops a simple method that contributes to directly detect sulfonylurea pesticides at the source of pollution, providing insights for further research on sulfonylurea pesticides detection and filling the gap in pesticide residue studies.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The objectives of this study are twofold: first, to visualize the structure of malformed cochleae through image reconstruction; and second, to develop a predictive model for postoperative outcomes of cochlear implantation (CI) in patients diagnosed with cochlear hypoplasia (CH) and incomplete partition (IP) malformation. METHODS: The clinical data from patients diagnosed with cochlear hypoplasia (CH) and incomplete partition (IP) malformation who underwent cochlear implantation (CI) at Beijing Tongren Hospital between January 2016 and August 2020 were collected. Radiological features were analyzed through 3D segmentation of the cochlea. Postoperative auditory speech rehabilitation outcomes were evaluated using the Categories of Auditory Performance (CAP) and the Speech Intelligibility Rating (SIR). This study aimed to investigate the relationship between cochlear parameters and postoperative outcomes. Additionally, a predictive model for postoperative outcomes was developed using the K-nearest neighbors (KNN) algorithm. RESULTS: In our study, we conducted feature selection by using patients' imaging and audiological attributes. This process involved methods such as the removal of missing values, correlation analysis, and chi-square tests. The findings indicated that two specific features, cochlear volume (V) and cochlear canal length (CDL), significantly contributed to predicting the outcomes of hearing and speech rehabilitation for patients with inner ear malformations. In terms of hearing rehabilitation, the KNN classification achieved an accuracy of 93.3%. Likewise, for speech rehabilitation, the KNN classification demonstrated an accuracy of 86.7%. CONCLUSION: The measurements obtained from the 3D reconstruction model hold significant clinical relevance. Despite the considerable variability in cochlear morphology across individuals, radiological features remain effective in predicting cochlear implantation (CI) prognosis for patients with inner ear malformations. The utilization of 3D segmentation techniques and the developed predictive model can assist surgeons in conducting preoperative cochlear structural measurements for patients with inner ear malformations. This, in turn, can offer a more informed perspective on the anticipated outcomes of cochlear implantation.
